Wall Diffuser Applications

Rezdora Restaurant in New York City. Featured product: 1-Slot Linear Diffuser

Wall-mounted diffusers used for air conditioning will diffuse the cool air across the ceiling, hence mixing with the warmer air that already exists up there. Gradually, the cool air will start to make its way down since cool air tends to be denser than warm air.
Generally, you won’t feel the moving air as much with this type of application. If considering a wall-mounted diffuser for a new development, please keep in mind that you’d have to build out the wall to be deep enough in order to accommodate the necessary ductwork.

For a wall application, we recommend our 1-Slot and 2-Slot Linear Diffusers (90 Degree Opening). Compared to traditional metal wall vents, they provide a clean and minimalist look that keeps wall clutter at an absolute minimum, thus creating more space for your desired decor of choice.

Ceiling Diffuser Applications

Spiritea Drinks in New York City. Featured product: 1-Slot Round Diffuser

Ceiling-mounted diffusers are the most commonly used application for HVAC air distribution. Because warm air rises, and cool air sinks, a ceiling-mounted diffuser is the top choice for cool air conditioning (especially in hot climates and humid coastal cities). They ventilate and evenly distribute conditioned air in the desired location. When installed correctly, this low-velocity movement of air ensures noise levels are kept at an absolute minimum.

Ceiling diffusers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, giving people the option to choose the right product for their needs. For example, some people prefer round diffusers as they add softness and help to balance out any hard edges in the overall space. All told, our Round, Square, and 90-Degree Linear Diffusers are all great ceiling options as they deliver air via vertical projection and are an aesthetically pleasing alternative to commonly seen square ceiling vents.

Linear Diffuser

Master Bathroom Remodel in Maryland. Featured product: 1-Slot Linear Diffuser

The linear diffuser (also commonly referred to as a “linear slot diffuser” or just “slot diffuser”) is a very popular choice amongst architects and home-owners alike. They are designed for both wall and ceiling installations.

InviAir linear diffusers are fully customizable and can be manufactured in virtually any length and slot opening. Our unique, tape-and-spackle application method allows for the linear diffuser to blend seamlessly into its surrounding architecture, leaving no trace of unsightly edges behind. After a successful installation, the only visible part of the diffuser that remains is the slot opening. This allows for strong, clean lines that complement the minimalist aesthetics of any modern space.

Our 90-Degree Linear Diffuser is a great option for ceiling and sidewall applications as it comfortably delivers air via vertical projection without blowing directly on someone’s head. Alternatively, our 45-Degree Linear Diffuser offers a horizontal air pattern that deflects across the ceiling. All of our linear diffusers are completely free of any metal blades in the slot openings, thus allowing for a significant reduction in excess noise and condensation.

Return Air

Java & Jam Restaurant in Florida. Featured Product: 2-Slot Linear

Return air vents work in tandem with the supply air diffusers. A return air vent pulls the air back to the HVAC ductwork system. Because there are typically more supply vents in an HVAC system, the vents used for “return air” are going to be much larger than the ones for supply air. Return vents also have filters placed directly behind them. This is important as it prevents contaminants like dust and dirt from damaging the overall HVAC system.

Vents used for return air should ideally be placed a fair distance from diffusers used for supply air. This prevents any potential short-circuiting of supply air. It also helps to place the return vents in an area in which there is little-to-no air movement, as this aids in removing the stagnant air. In a system used for cooling, a highly placed wall or ceiling return vent will remove warm air from the surrounding area. When it comes to a heating system, a return vent that’s placed lower on the wall will aid in removing stagnant air from the space.

Supply Air

Photo of Art Gallery. Featured Product: 1-Slot Square Diffuser

Supply air is filtered air that is brought into a building via the HVAC system’s air handling unit. After the unit conditions the air, it pushes it into a room through the ductwork and supply diffuser or grille. Diffusers typically have anywhere from one to four air distribution slots and have a horizontal airflow. They distribute and ventilate the conditioned air in a room and manage the air output.

These ventilation systems generally supply air at a high velocity, in a way that ensures the temperature in the entire room is consistent and the air is sufficiently “mixed.” This aims to help to keep variations in temperature at a minimum. Unfortunately, most common air diffusers are made from metal. This is a problem because metal responds very quickly to temperature changes (the surface of a metal diffuser becomes cold shortly after you turn the air conditioner on). Warm air has the ability to contain more moisture than cold air, and it loses that ability when it comes into contact with a cold surface, creating water droplets as a result. Therefore, it is not recommended to use metal supply air diffusers in coastal cities with warm and humid climates as their longevity would be compromised.

Distinctive Features of InviAir Supply Diffusers:

  • Each product in our catalog has both supply and return air capabilities
